BBQ Tips

PROBLEM: A SOFT FIRE OR A SMALL FLAME WHEN THE VALVE IS OPEN IN THE HIGH POSITION

Possible causes

  • For Propane, Inadequate Ignition Procedure
  • For natural gas, a supply line that is too small
  • For both gases, incorrect preheating
  • Gas leaks

Solution: Ensure that the ignition procedure is followed carefully. All gas valves in the barbecue must be turned off when the tank valve is open. Slowly start the tank to equalize the pressure. See lighting instructions. Disconnect and reconnect the regulator to the tank to reset the controller if a small flame or a mild fire has occurred. The pipe must have a size corresponding to the installation code. Preheat the grill with the main burners in the high position for 10 to 15 minutes.

PROBLEM: EXCESSIVE OUTBREAKS OR UNEVEN DISTRIBUTION OF HEAT

Possible causes

  • Burner Plates / flavor waves, placed Incorrectly
  • Blocked or cracked burners
  • Excessive grease and clumps of ash on the burner plates and in the drip tray

Solution: Make sure the burner plates are installed with the holes facing forward and the slots facing down. See assembly instructions. Preheat the grill with the main burners in the high position for 10 to 15 minutes. Regularly clean the burner plates and the drip tray. Do not line the pan with aluminum foil. See cleaning instructions

PROBLEM: THE BURNERS PRODUCE A YELLOW FLAME, ACCOMPANIED BY A GAS ODOR

Possible causes

  • It is possible that there is a spider web or other debris blocking gas from flowing.
  • Incorrect adjustment of the air shutter

Solution: Clean the burner thoroughly by removing it. See general maintenance instructions. Slightly open the air shutter according to the air adjustment instructions for combustion. This must be done by a qualified gas installer.

PROBLEM: THE FLAMES RISE AWAY FROM THE BURNER, ACCOMPANIED BY A GAS ODOR AND POSSIBLY IGNITION DIFFICULTIES.

Possible causes

  • Incorrect adjustment of the air shutter

Solution: Slightly close the air shutter according to the air adjustment instructions for combustion. This must be done by a qualified gas installer.

PROBLEM: THE BURNER DOES NOT LIGHT UP WITH THE IGNITER, BUT IT LIGHTS UP WITH A MATCH

Possible causes

  • A loose electrode wire or interchanged terminal wires
  • Battery needs changing
  • Battery placed incorrectly

Solution: Replace with a high-performance battery. Check that the electrode wire is firmly pressed on the terminal at the rear of the igniter. Check that the main wires of the ignition switch module (if equipped) are firmly pressed on their respective terminals. Spark ignition systems must use a spark igniter. Make sure the manifold box is adjusted and the space between the electrode tip and the manifold box is between 1/8 “and 3/16” (3 mm to 5 mm). The space can be adjusted by moving the box in or out. Close the air shutter slightly (see previous problem).
